Choir

At Middleton Public School we have two singing groups:

  • Kindergarten to Year 2 Choir and
  • Year 2 to Year 6 Choir

The Early Stage 1 Choir runs from Term 2 of each year and is organised by Mrs O'Donnell.

  • Kindergarten and Year 1 students join voluntarily and practise at lunchtime once a week.
  • The aim of the K-1 choir is to enjoy music and learns songs that that are age-appropriate.
  • The children perform 2 items during the year.
  • Their songs often include drama and the students gain confidence performing to an audience.
  • About 30 students are involved.

The Year 2 to Year 6 choir runs all year. We meet to practice every Monday at lunchtime.

  • The children sing at school functions such as Assembly and Presentation Night, special ceremonies and events like Anzac Day, P&C film nights or school fetes.
  • We also sing in our local community for service groups such as Quota or Probus, Carols in the Park, at Rosedurnate, Southern Cross or Niola Residential Care Centres for our senior citizens.

This year we will take part in a concert call 'New Harmonies' which will involve the Shire Concert band, the Lachlan Regional Orchestra, 2 adult choirs and choirs from our local schools.

After many regular practices at school and several combined practices we will come together in a concert with individual performances featuring each group, and for combined items that will see the children performing with a large live orchestra. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to experience performance at a developed level.

Appreciation of music is a very important part of being human and provides benefits beyond the music itself. We encourage all students to try singing at some time while they are a primary school.

You never know what talents lie in every person, waiting to be discovered.
